19 years old, Looking at buying a bus! NEED HELP 2001 INTERNATIONAL 3800

I am 19 years old and thinking about buying a bus and converting it into a sort of gymnastic play pin for people. My only concern is I know I can convert a school bus to a Recreational vehicle in the state of Ohio. However, I am kind of confused on the fact I guess it has to be under 26,000 pounds for me since Im using it for commercial use not to need a CDL? It is not like I am transporting anyone. Just, moving it place to place and "setting up shop."

Also on the other Note I am looking at a 2001 International 3800 and the person selling it says its 22,000 pounds? Is that really not believable or is that possible?

Any advise or info would really help me out!
Thanks,
Evan

If you are conducting any kind of business out of it, every state I know of will regard it as "Commercial" and want the resulting exorbitant fees and insurance.

Agreed!
If there's anything you're making money off of....
The state & federal government will want their cut!

And it's only fair... If one company adheres to policy, all companies should adhere to that same policy

My guess is that you are more responsible than most 19 year olds, but the insurance companies might not see you that way. Getting a CDL is involved, but not impossible. But getting insurance might be as good as impossible if they want a ton of money that you don't have. I would encourage you to arrange insurance before making a purchase.

Ya man...business means commercial. There is a serious amount of money for inspections for that vehicle commercially. You will also be subject to roadside commercial vehicle inspection stations...referred to as scales. Those boys don't joke around. There's a lot of p's and q's to mind on a large vehicle and I don't recommend it to anyone without a cdl. Commercial driver's licence...and many years of experience. It's not a car. You can get heavy fines...as in a maximum of $5000 Per Day! For the driver and up to hundreds of thousands in fines for the company...so make good choices my man.

im in Ohio, if you are going to operate a business out of your bus it will need to carry a DOT number and most likely require you to carry a CDL and follow hours of service, etc rules..

Ohio requires ANY vehicle transporting goods connercially over 10,000 GVWR to be DOT tagged...

if its still classified as a BUS and is under 26k GVWR and under 15 seats you 'MAY' be able to get it classified as a LIMO.. LIMOs have different rules of service but still requires a CDL to operate if carryiung passengers..

if you have just one seat and the driver seat and is under 26k GVWR you MAY be able to get it classified as a VAN..

but since you want to use the bus commercially regardless it will need a DOT number and I believe once you slap a DOT number on you need a CDL..

the DMV in columbus has been most helpful for me with my busses in getting them classified correctly... I Do not use them commercially so its different in my case.
