2007 flat nose international. A good choice?

Hi to every body,
this will be my first posting, but I've been reading the forum for a couple of months already. the time that I have been looking for the right candidate to convert.
I got the point! the dt466 mechanical is maybe the best option, but after 2 months, the only ones that I find are too load in miles or way too expense.
Finally today I came across a what I think is a good option, but I will highly appreciate your input.

The prospect is a 2007, RE300, flat nose international with a 444 and 87000 miles .

A 2007 aint gonna have a 444. Its gona be the 365 aka the 6.0. NOT a good engine.
Any small engine in a big RE bus is gona be a dog. Go big and older. Even if it isn't mechanical, get one that's pre-egr and all that stuff.
A DT466E is a FINE engine. So are the 8.3 Cummins.

definitely no T-444E in a 2007.... ECCB is right it will be the VT-365 (6.0), which the Navistar version is better than the ford 6.0 {google powerstroke 6.0 failures} its definitely still got issues.. like overheat it Once and you gotta buy a new one..

the VT-365 is a good engine if you are very estute and mechanically inclined to spot issues early and fix them yourself..

EC has it right - the DT-466E is one the best of the more modern engines... cummins 5.9's (a bit underpowered) and 8.3's are also good alternatives.. CATs and Mercedes are not horrible but they are PRICEY with two $$ to get parts / repairs for..

If you're looking at 3000REs, go for 2004 or earlier. You won't have any EGR crap onboard, and your engine options will be either DTs (466 or 530) or T-444E- all three are fairly reliable, even if the 444E is underpowered. Definitely try to get a 466 or 530 paired to 3000-series Allison transmission, especially if you're planning a lot of highway driving
