Re: 5.9 Cummins governed out @65?

Thanks for all the replies guys, ive been busy workin on it alot since i got it out here to ohio. I was pretty nervous about the ride out to oh from pa cause it was one of the hottest days of the year but the 99 tc1000 did great rt 80 where i was driving has lots of long uphill grades and i worried about bogging down to 35mph and over heating but no such trouble! i was passing big rigs chugging about 60 goin up those mile long grades ME HAPPY. im not concerned about gettin more speed out of her any more, it actually governs out at like 67, will hit 72 goin down hill. no need to worry about a speeding ticket.

pictures to come soon!!

What does it sound like with the straight pipe? Can you put a video up? I was thinking about doing that also if it wasn't too loud.

Re: 5.9 Cummins governed out @65?

i was thinking about straight piping my exhaust, what are the advantages? i too was afraid it would be louder? mine would be easy to cut off b4 the muffler and pipe out the side...

Re: 5.9 Cummins governed out @65?

Diesels breath better without the muffler or cat converter
i need to punch our or remove the muffler on my cat engine.
Have already removed the cat converter on my diesel pickup... muffler will be next.
Tuning up the diesel engines for higher hp and removing restrictions in the exhaust is good for the engines and gets you better fuel mileage if you drive sensibly...
Just what i have learned over the years.

However, not much i have ever done on a 8v71 or 8v92 has ever helped much with my 2 coach busses... (6-8mpg)

2600 for a 5.9 ISB in a Bird is about right, actually. Assuming you have 265/70R19.5 tires, I'm guessing you have 3.54 gears. If so, that is as tall as they get. My friend has a 1998.5 TC1000, he has the same setup...it will run 65MPH (~2300RPM, IIRC) all day.
