Personally I don't care for the 7.3, I would go for the 8.2 or 6.6.

The 6.6 is a bulletproof engine. IT's wimpy, but so are the other two you are comparing. It was a tractor engine before it was a highway service engine.

The 6.6 liter is commonly known as the new holland, or the brazialian ford.

parts are expensive, that's about the only downside.

I have this motor, with the at545 auto allison and get 8.5 mpg in a 72 passenger.

I also paid only $775.00 for my bus. It had 254K miles on it when i purchaeed it. Now has about 25K more.

Run away from the 8.2 as fast as you can.

Either of the others will be fine.

I have a couple 1988 IH's with the 7.3 and 5 speed manuals, and service two of them at work. they have been very good engines for all intents and purposes.I towed a full size big block Bronco on a flatbed trailer on a trip to SD and averaged a bit over 10 mpg doing so. The only troubles with these motors is that they will cavitate if not properly serviced. No biggie..... just keep it serviced. This bus is not a racer by any stretch on highways and steep hills, but I tell anyone who wonders about top speed .... it doesn't go fast for a road car, but it goes pretty good for a livingroom.
