95 GMC mini

I have been told this type of bus is slippery in the winter because there is no weight over the rear wheels when empty. Would sandbags help at all?
At least the bus has a 6.5 litre diesel and a 4L80 automatic transmission so I can actually drive it now and later convert it to run veggie oil.

I don't think it would be too bad in the winter as long as you have traction tires on the rear. With single wheels on the back it might handle a little tipsy but I have never drivin one with singles either. I have drivin ford, chevy, and dodge 15 passenger vans around with no major problems in the winter. But when adding 4 70 pound sandbags in the back they handle pretty good with traction tires on the rear.

Well I wish I could buy a bus, but I have a limited budget. So, I am now the kid driving around in a very nice 87 Caprice wagon. I love the wagon, got it for $510 which is near the limit of my budget, but I wish I could have gotten a bus. I doubt I can find a good small bus between $500 & $1000 that is also a diesel in the northeast U.S (Or South Eastern Canada?). My school has a small bus that is getting a bit old. That bus the school owns looks roughly like this, but is a Freightliner.

The rear wheels get plenty of traction in the snow. Slowing down is hard as it weighs 9200#. That's probably about 1500# more than a dually F350, and its all in the box weight. I would think that you're still gonna have a good amount of weight at the rear. Again, getting slowed down in the snow is going to be the hard part. Maybe save the Caprice for those days.

I might suggest that you'd look at the GVW of the bus and determine if it will fit your needs. I remember driving a Ryder truck, configured the same as your bus, and found that it really felt pretty light in the back. At high speeds (65-75 mph), I felt like the truck was unstable and, to tell you the truth, scared me a little (maybe I was going too fast).

I think I would much prefer dual wheels in the back, but that's my opinion (remember what they say about opnions ).
