Actual weight of a Bus

Just scrapped out an 11 window S-1800 1987 International with a 9.0 diesel blue bird body. Much to my suprise and dismay it only weighed 12,800 lbs. Everything I've read and seen led me to believe it would be in excess of 20k lbs. When I looked at the title of the bus it said empty weight of 12,080. I was hoping it was wrong and perhaps just the chassis weight. So much for making a little extra project cash. I did however get a newer fiberglass nose for my project bus
