Advice needed: Ceiling adhesive removal

I need suggestions on how to remove the adhesive on the ceiling left behind after the removal of the insulation. I am lining my entire bus with Lizard skin (floor, ceiling, and walls) and want the adhesive gone so the sound deadener and the ceramic thermal coat both have a good surface to stick to.. suggestions.

I imagine it's dry and can be removed with an orbital sander. If it's really hard to get off and it were mine I'd lizard skin over it.

A good stiff brush, on a medium length handle should do it.

Post pics please. My 92 Ward had Asphalteum under the roof. Took a LONG time to remove.
Its an asphalt that's like tar.

Thanks guys.. I bought some Krud Kutter (5 gallon jug) and a bug sprayer.. I am going to spray..soak..spray..soak then pressure wash.. I thought about sand blasting but the media for a sand blaster for about 300sqft was stupid expensive after you factor shipping and equip rental. I hear you on the orbital sander but I am hoping very much that I can avoid that time vampire project if at all possible. I'll let you all know how it turns out with the Krud Kutter. Also I know many on here were really interested to see how this Lizard Liner comes out, I am too. I will post those update on my Serenity Bus thread. Thanks every contributor on the site for being such a tremendous resource

A Kwik note regarding the old "asphateum" used on many early buses...

Be advised...it will burn.

Welding on the opposite side can easily light it off.

Go ahead...ask me how I know.

we had all of it gone by the time we went to welding. But even grinding the tar off with a grinder got it hot enough to burn me. Stuff is just NASTY.
