Advice on Bus: 8.2L GMC Bluebird body

I work for the county, they have 4: 1990 Bluebird Body w/ 8.2L GMC Motors.
They have a Chevy emblem on the grill.

They will be going on auction soon and I have been talking to the main machanic about these buses. It seems to run good and cranks right up from cold start. I still need to let it warm up and check to make sure it doesn't smoke blue after warm up. Bodies are all good and no rust other than some surface rust.

My question is, is there anything I should be wary of with these motors? Or anything else you reccomend I check? I am thinking of offering to buy straight from my employer instead of letting the one I want hit the auction. Any help you can give me is appreciated.

I believe its a Detroit 8.2 if that helps, non turboed
From what I have read so far, people don't like those motors. Any advice at this point would be great.

The DD8.2 are odd engines. Some swear by them , some swear at them. They can be good engines if taken care of. Known for head gasket failures and used no cylinder liners. I wouldn't have one but I'm an IHC DT466 fan anyways.

Thanks, I appreciate it. In that case I will avoid those, I will see about a bluebird international bus with maybe a dt466 or t444
