Air Filter??
Does anyone know how I would locate a new air filter for a 1990 Blue Bird TC2000 5.9 Cummins? Does anyone have a part number? Just thought that I would post up here first before I start calling around.

Re: Air Filter??
I probably have the same filter, but I have not needed one yet. But what I would do, depending on what sort of stores exist in your area, is go to a Cummins shop -- check the Yellow Pages. You could also telephone a Blue Bird dealer, who may be able to get you a part number. Last I looked, the Blue Bird factory web site had a list of dealers. Once you have a part number, any "serious" auto parts store should be able to order the filter. NAPA auto parts stores are big on commercial parts. "Floor mats and stereos" stores like Kragen, less so.
Also, take a good look at the old filter -- it may have a part number on it.
A good parts man may even be able to get you the right filter by measuring the old one.

Re: Air Filter??
I'll try and get you a Wix part number tomorrow. Any auto parts store should carry them or at least be able to cross them.

Re: Air Filter??
I am in the process of having a BlueBird dealer look up the part number. Their computers couldn't look up any older than 1996 so they said they were going to have to call BlueBird directly and give me a call back. I tried looking at all the major filter manufacturers websites as well to find a part number but have not had any luck. If I find anything out I will be sure to post it up cause this a huge pain in the butt.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Air Filter??
I have a 91 TC2000, the air filter is right in front of the front door - behind the bumper, accessed from outside. Theres a bolt holding the bottom on the canister then another bolt that holds the filter in place, it only takes a few min to take off. I'd just quick take it off and see if there's a number on it.
As for looking it up, I think you want to call a blue bird dealer, since the 5.9 cummins school bus motor is in several different kinds of buses and may have a few variations in filters.

Re: Air Filter??
Does the bus have a Nelson air cleaner? The more information you can get me the more helpful I can be. There are several choices in the Wix line.

Re: Air Filter??
It has a Nelson style air cleaner, I will check today if it is a Nelson brand or some other brand. Thanks for the help. The BlueBird dealer never called me back so I am guessing they're having trouble finding it or blew me off. I'll try again on Monday I guess.

Re: Air Filter??
Got an answer back from BlueBird directly, within the same day too! The Bluebird part number is 4280574. That number can be cross-referenced on all the name brand filter websites. Just thought that I would post this up for anyone that might search for it in the future.
Thanks experience for trying to help, I wasn't able to make it by my bus to check what air cleaner it had, but I am almost positive it is a Nelson. I think the Wix pn on this filter is 46603.

Re: Air Filter??
Nelson? I suppose there could be a lot of different names out there. The truck dealer I work for carries a few different types, but the Donaldson Filters seem to be very common on trucks and buses. Cummins will have their own filters under the Fleetguard Brand (Fleetguard is a subsidiary of Cummins).
The WIX number posted below crosses to a Fleetguard AF1811 on the Cummins/Fleetguard website but the Bluebird number doesn't cross at all... AF1811 image & info
You can access the Cummins cross reference page HERE

Re: Air Filter??
The air filter choices are pretty unique. My book only has 3 choices, as does the Wix website.
Wix 46603
It's a stocking part at my parts store...

Re: Air Filter??
I would have went with Fleetguard but nobody carries them in stock and they local Truck parts store said that they take some time to get in stock. Wix has a good reputation anyways and can be had had my local auto parts store same day.

Re: Air Filter??
Anyone know of a high flow filter made for these? I live at 10K ft and the bus runs like a pig until the turbo spools up.

Re: Air Filter??
Bigger turbo. The guys who hot rod the 5.9 in Dodge pickumups have all kinds of power tricks, including dual turbos even.
All right... different price range, yes.
