back window AC unit

I am dieing in the heat, and have decided that i absolutely NEED an AC unit. I want to put one in my reer window next to what was my emergency door. does anyone have pics or planns of how they installed theres??

I have seen some people who have done it. I am also interested in this same thing but havent pulled the trigger on it. You may want to follow this thread....

We're still debating whether we need one or not. We'll mostly be in the Northwest year around and they so rarely get to the 90s. But we do have a small window unit ready to plop into a window--just not sure will bother tugging it along once over there.

Last summer (2010) Seattle was 105 to 110 degrees. Well above the 70-80 normal range.
If I had one I sure would take (tug) it along with me. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.....

I was up in Bremerton in 1996 when it hit in the upper 90s there and I thought the news media was going to make people think satan was setting up shop there? I was laughing at them.

I think people are interested in the how to do's and the what not to do's. Saying you put one in is great and wonderful but saying I put one in and had to build frame bracing.... it worked for a little bit and I redid it to do such n such is more of what I am looking for. I am one of those people who does not mind spending some money on things but want to use it wisely. I think a lot of people are looking to avoid the pitfalls of doing things improperly if any thing.

When I mounted my AC, I used 1/2 square steel tube to support the right and left sides, tying into the structure, then screwed the side flanges of the AC unit to the tubes. I made sheets to fill the opening out of aluminum, installed styrofoam insulation and finished up my beadboard interior wall. I ran the 120V cord under the beadboard to an outlet then broke it out to plug it in. My AC has a small breaker box at the plug, and I didnt want to cut it out and hardwire into the 120V circuit.

hmm doesn't seem that hard. I rather like the one that sits inside as I hate the look of them sitting out the window. Or at least an easy to put in and take out version so no butts are hanging out.

Now that's a phrase I will think of the next time I see an A/C unit hanging out the window! We're going to put ours under the floor and tie it into the heating ductwork. A/C & LP Furnace used the same ductwork on our last house... on our last 3 houses.
