Backup beeper - keep it or trash it?

I can see how the backup beeper might be a safety feature but I also imagine it would be very unpopular when backing into a campground at midnight. Have you kept yours or disabled it?

Good question. Mine is still beeping away, but I've thought about pulling the plug on it many times. I'll probably end up disabling it.

I think I might run a switch in line with mine to silence it when I need stealth, but keep it for the rest of the time.

I would probably keep it. Not sure how other states do it but I can see them requiring it for some kind of safety inspection. With that said why not just put a toggle switch on it to turn it off. I can see it being a very good thing when backing up.

I dont really like mine but its more for other people to get the hell out of the way than to help me.

Re: Backup beeper - keep it or trash it?

one of the first things i did was climb under the back and chop the positive wire. i mainly did it to try to annoy the neighbors a little less as i work on it. before i am finished i plan oon putting a toggle switch underneath right next to it. it wont be easy to get to, but i dont plan on keeping it on much, just able to for inspection or if we pull into a really crowded lot for something i can get out and turn it on.

We trashed ours. No real valid reasoning, just did not feel the need for it. Maybe down the road when I want a little side project I'll hook it back up with a toggle.

I'd just use one of the tons of locations in my switchboard. I'm already kind of planning (long range anyway) to add switches for turning on a couple inverters, docking lights, battery disconnect, etc. to that panel.

Re: Backup beeper - keep it or trash it?

I'm keeping my beeper. I can barely see the rear end and I'd rather have people hear the annoying beeper and stay out of my way than hope they see me backing up.
A toggle switch does sound awesome, though! Because the beeper is... well... very annoying.

How do you find the back-up alarm wire? What do I look for? What would it be connected to?

Turn your key on without starting the bus. Make sure parking brake is on and wheels are blocked. Put bus into reverse. Walk to the back of the bus with wire cutters and find the beeper and cut the wire. Put on butt connectors if you plan to hook it back up in the future.
