I'm thinking a backup camera is probably a pretty good idea before I destroy anything belonging to someone else. So far I've just backed into my things.
Obviously RV's mount their camera up high, while some like the camera mounted near the hitch obviously for backing up to trailers. I've never had a back up camera but they aren't all that expensive depending on how far you want to go.
I would go with the cctv system as I believe the wireless models would encounter interference at least at times. I should probably make a choice on this subject myself since I do seem to be actively driving my bus. I try to avoid backing up, but someone will block you in even when you park at the far end of the parking lot.

i love using the garmin. my biggest fear is theft. so it gets put away and stored inside when the bus is parked.
i wired the camera to the running lights, so its my rearview mirror as long as those lights are on, not just when in reverse.
a 7" screen is minimum..... bigger is better in a bus.

Keep in mind that the Nanny Cams and Security cams were never engineered to go mobile, be shaken and vibrated. Heard from a couple of folks who used similar "stationary" units only to have them fail very quickly.

Ya if I end up going that route going to have to figure out a solution to reduce vibration. Prop some type of base plate attached with silicone to the bus then another layer as well between the camera and base plate. But idno....decisions.. decisions....
Luckily my governor is set @ 52mph and I may only get it changed to like 60mph. Plan on traveling slow as we won't have any where to be.

I'm looking at a system that not only is used as a backup camera but can have 4 cameras at once on one screen & can record all 4 on a 8 hr loop

Back-up camera? PUHLEASE! Thats why I have 6 outside mirrors and one inside mirror. Besides, if I can back a 53' trailer from the inside of a 26.5' tractor without a back-up camera, a 40' bus is a lead pipe cinch.

I'm with you on this one,started n 40fters and they just kept getting bigger
With no extra training so after almost 40 years total..I may just get lazy and get me one of those back up cameras.

I have a back up camera, 7inch color screen, I ran the wire inside the bus , the camera is mounted inside pointing out the back window , I have it wired so I can turn it on and watch my scooter if I have it on the back of the bus. I"m going to move the camera and mount it on top of my A/C.

Our 2 camera system was a cheap ebay setup for like $50. The idea was to put them both on the top of the back of the bus, one pointing down at the bumper (our bumper is a 3 ft deck) and one pointing out straight at traffic. Turns out they pretty much do the exact same view, and the cheaper tinier camera was better quality than the other nightvision capable camera, so we just use the one. It gives us a view of the deck and generator and bikes as well as behind the bus and most of the blind spot. Eventually I'll disable the useless other camera and put one on each side of the bus near the driver area facing back down the sides. It really helps for switching lanes and also has the lines on the screen so we can back up within inches of something. It has been one of the best things we've done for ourselves.

That is what I am going for as well. Looking for more of a security system that could double as a back up camera hopefully as well.

the nanny cams are made to be placed wherever the kid is so i m o they would hold up to abuse more than a security cam , at least the name brand ones. you get what you pay for. when you need it just set it in the back window and put away when not in use.
