I definitely was a spreader of incorrect knowledge on that post and I do sincerely apologize if it led anyone astray. I was simply repeating what I've heard and read from other sources whom I would have considered experts--I mean a message on the frame put there by the factory seemed pretty official to me!
I will say, however, that I would have not known I was wrong until I posted it here. That is what I like so much about this forum--it is an open dialogue and if we are afraid to give our best guess because we aren't 100% sure we are correct, then this site loses a lot of value for me. I only post if I can be reasonably certain that what I am saying is not misguided advice--of course I don't know everything, and am not afraid to admit that I'll be wrong sometimes.
Very few people can be experts at all things related to owning, maintaining, modifying, and converting a school bus, but I think we'd all like to become one....someday

I too admit when I posted something incorrect. I have much respect for a person that can admit a mistake.
There is a ton of Hippocratic info around frames. Some say not to drill, some say you can. Welding is a no no, yet Blue Bird welded the rear tow hooks to my frame.
Your right about none of us being experts in anything, let alone everything. We can only try to pass on the best info we can.

Right or wrong here is mine. A friend of mine gave me one that was mounted on a van. The receiver was rusted in and impossible to get out. So I cut it off and redid a few things. I cut the center tube out, and narrowed it. Then resleeved the inside with a smaller square tube and welded it all back together for the right width of the bus frame.

I use a 6" drop. All I can say is that I have 7000 miles pulling 7000lb trailer and no issues.

And the sleeving/good burn in reminded me of links, steering shaft mods, turning knuckles and axle housing mods...lololol....
Not to mention psc box...lol

This thread has turned out to be a useful resource, but it also contains information that is not exactly useful.
Thank you everyone who commented here, we all learnt something.
It also turns out that some profesionals contradict each other. I guess this is to be expected as we all think differently.
The point?
This discussion has led to what I think is the "best" (?) information regarding the drilling of frames in this thread.

If the holes are no bigger than 3/4 inch, and centered in the flange, your fine.

This information that Nat has presented is beter than I receieved form the profesionals that I talked to beceause he put a number to how big a hole you can make.
Now, can we PLEASE LET THE DOG DIE on the thought that at least I at least was'nt this guy?
