Bus front door question

I pulled our buses origional front door off yesterday...and am in the process of building a real door for it .



I'm trying to figure out what that little door lock/close pressure switch does on the articulated arm closure handle.

Is it just an alarm switch to notify the driver that the door isnt secure.

Or does it do more ...

I'd like to pull it off and get rid of it , but I'm not sure what the 4 wires leading to the switch do.



Any ideas would be a help.

Our bus is a GMC 1991

Hi Michael,



Are you talking about the switch that's by the open/close handle (it closes against it)? It's what turns the flashing lights on when the driver picks up the kids. You've probably got a 'master' switch on your electrical panel to turn the whole system on and off. On my bus there's a manual button to get the Amber Flashing Lights going before the bus stops and then the Red Flashing Lights come on automatically when I open the door and shut off when I close the door (the Amber Lights go off then too; until I mash the button again).



Oh yeah, it also makes the side 'STOP' arm go out when the door opens.

It also turn the light on in the stair well if you have the headlights on too
