Bypassed muffler on 5.9 turbo Cummins

Finally got a good look under my Blue Bird TC2000 and discovered at some point in the past someone had bypassed the muffler on my 5.9 turbo Cummins. I have about 150 miles that I've driven and there seems to be no problem. Any reason why I should? (And it just passed inspection.)
In comparison (sorta') I have had two 2 1/2 ton (deuce-and-a-half) army trucks with multi-fuel diesels. The first was a non-turbo and had a muffler. All turbo models, like I have now, do not run a muffler. Whaddaya think?

I took off 30 ft of exhaust and have about 4ft of pipe right off the turbo to outside, no muffler, thats what a turbo is for

Got some other questions that I'll be bringing up as this goes along. One is what powers the hydraulic fan on the side (It's a RE.) By this I mean is it powered by motor oil or a hydraulic fluid and separate pump? I have what I believe to be an oil (as opposed to hydraulic fluid) leak that seems to drip from everywhere across the engine. The hydraulic motor on the fan seems to be where it originates and my guess is that the fan spreads this oil (Fluid) everywhere. I will get some pics (and the question seems all over the place). But for now, any thoughts on this?

I have a 91 Bird with a Cat, the power steering and fan both run off of the same pump. It piggyback on the air compressor. System uses motor oil.
