Can I open the emergency doors?

I'm fully aware that this is a stupid question. I've searched the forum/internet generally and I think everybody is a couple of steps ahead of me on this one.

I could just use a little reassurance here.

95 Bluebird tc2000 with ignition interlock (there's a sign over the driver seat). I have opened the emergency windows, no alarm. But I'm utterly convinced from my bus-riding days that if I open the emergency doors a big alarm will go off and I won't know how to stop it.

If I open the emergency doors, is a big alarm going to go off? Or does it just prevent me from starting the engine?

It won't start with the doors open. There will also be an alarm buzzer.
As long as you don't go ham-fistedly cutting wires you'll be fine.

Just a buzzer but not like a car alarm? That's manageable. Thanks!

I've never heard one with a car alarm but they are out there.
Shutting the door properly and not opening it while the bus is running will keep you from having an alarm.

Yours is a 95, I'd bet its just a common buzzer that goes off.

Yeah, one time on the school bus ride home someone fiddled with the emergency door handle and it wouldn't stop buzzing until the bus driver pulled over, trudged back to the back of the bus to open and reset it. Needless to say she was pretty pissed.
