Carwash soap drums?

Hey Everyone,

I am trying to track down a source for poly drums to use as water tanks.

I saw a conversion thread showing the use of "square" 55 gallon drums that had been used for carwash soap. I have been hunting for that thread so that I can find out what manufacturer the drums came from. No luck so far.

Anyone have any information on the square soap containers or the thread that showed them?

They looked to be about 22"x22"x36" from what I could guess from the pictures.

Thanks.

S.

Never seen a square soap drum before and couldn't find anything on an internet search. Here's a place that makes utility tanks that may work for you. 55gallon is 18" x 18" x 44". If

Thank you for the suggestion.

I have looked at a number of tanks online and found some reasonable prices for the tanks. It's the shipping that is the killer.

I found 100 gallon tanks that would suit me fine for $160 each. A pair for $320+$680 shipping....

I have searched extensively online and have not found a source for the square drums. The only thing that has me convinced that they exist is that I saw pics and description in a build thread.

I am hoping to find out what company uses them for their soap, contact them and try and find a car wash near me that uses their products.

Smallest poly tote I've seen was 200a.
I called a few barrel manufacturers and none of them had a clue or had ever seen one before.

I had a 101" x 51" x 48", 961lb crate shipped from L.I., N.Y. to Ga. for $297 by YRC trucking. Use Uship.com and gets bids for shipping.

This is what I have on my trailer for boondocking purposes, 275 Imperial gallons. paid $200C for mine

To the Op, not sure if you have Kijijij where you are but it always has plastic drums advertised for sale. You also might try knocking on some factory doors, lots out there just got to root them out.

Not quite Rusty. The ones I am looking for are 50-55 gallons and are heavy roto molded poly just like a standard 55 gallon poly drum. Just square instead of round.

I saw square containers of that approximate size like you're talking about at Jiffy Lube. I wasn't able to talk them out of any of them, but I agree they would save considerable space or increase the volume of liquid storage.

Beyond that all I've found for sale were the larger tote tanks.

I used 3 of those for rainwater collection before I had city water. I paid $75-$100 US for them. They were handy but a bit large to fit under my bus......

I can get the typical 55 gallon round ones for $15 from a local outfit that "winterizes" RV and boat fresh water systems.

The square ones would fit better and be easier to mount.

Hopefully someone here has seen them or knows where I can find the build thread that I saw them on.

Thanks again Everyone.

And a can opener that size to put them inside isn't feasible either. Hospitals have them around also as they get cooking oils in them or old age homes, am sure you'll find what you need. For grey or black tanks, use a good size gas tank from a wrecking yard and hang under the bus.

I have a 15 gallon heavy duty cubic tank with round corners ( like a dice) and is made by Greif in Hazelton PA.
It has normal 2-1/2 inch threaded connections on top like a 55 gal drum.
Let me now if you need a picture.

Thanks J
I thought the criteria was car wash empty drum pricing. I didn't post any of the poly storage tanks because at those prices there are plenty of options available for it's intended purpose.

J, here's your nut. Do you know how to copy and paste or save to your downloads?

Thanks 01Marc, it was my impression that PNW steves , the OP, search was for square tanks as he had seen in another thread.
I have one of those and posted the manufacturer so that he knows wher he could get them. During that search I just noticed another square tank from northern tool with useful dimensions / specification and just added it for someone else to think about.

Regarding the nut, thank you but it was meant how to get a picture in your signature, it does not seem to allow me to do that.
It always amazes me in how many ways different people read different things in one sentence.
