Re: Ceiling Height

I think you should plan on doing a roof raise.... I'm only 6', and I raised my roof another foot, basically for general purposes, but really because I was concerned that when I finish re-flooring the bus, I'd end up loosing head room. But raising the roof IS a LOT of work....

Re: Ceiling Height

Just remember that when you start to plan your roof raise, that 13' 6" max has to include anything you mount up there, like roof top A/C unit etc... I have a friend that raised their roof 20" and they have had no problems, but I don't think they put anything on top either...

To answer your first question, the Carpenter bodies and Thomas high-headroom bodies are the only front engine buses I know of that have enough head room for someone of your height without doing the roof raise. But you won't be able to do much in the way of floor or roof insulation. Maybe other manufacturers of rear engine models also have high headroom. But as far as I know, 6'6" is the highest headroom you will find in a stock bus. I am also 6'4" and have a high roof Thomas, and with shoes on, standing on the bare metal floor after gutting the bus, I have maybe 1" above my head in the center of the bus.

Re: Ceiling Height

This is a guy who raised the roof on his MCI Coach. Basic method should work for you as well. Scroll down the page until you find "Raising the Roof", "More on Raising the Roof" "Another Tip on Roof Raising". Page 5 shows an Eagle 10 roof raise (no caps). Lots of good info on this site that can be adapted to skoolies.
