ceramic insulative additive for xo- rust/rustoleum ?

Anybody have any experience with this stuff? I think I could get away with painting the roof with a roller , but would tape off similiar to the white factory option using the BB horizontal stripe. I am concerned about the rougher texture and making it easier to get and stay dirty. I would even order enuf to do the interior if I thought it would work. Any thoughts?

Re: ceramic insulative additive for xo- rust/rustoleum ?

There is a brief discussion of it in the middle of this thread:

http://www.skoolie.net/forum/viewtopic.php?=&p=14529

I have been considering it for my roof. I have seen comments in the past from those who have used it stating that they weren't sure it made any difference but that it was inexpensive and seemed logical. But I too am concerned about the texture collecting dirt. I haven't personally felt a surface painted this way. I wonder how much texture it would really add to a heavy weight glossy paint such as glossy white floor paint.

Check out sportyrick's bus in the gallery... He used some sort of roof coating and said it really helped

I used Henry's Mobile home roof paint. In the sun, the inside of the roof was very warm. After painting the outside with 3 coats of the mobile home roof paint, the inside surface is now cool to the touch. Outside temps were about 90-92*.

Eggman, is the Henry's rubbery? I have seen that rubbery elastomeric(sp?) stuff at Lowes for about $60 for 5 gal. that seems like it would work well, but would get dirty and need a new coat every year. I don't think I want to be repainting the roof that often.

No, the Henry's that I used was more like regular paint. Went on fairly easy and was pretty smooth considering the roller that I put it on with. I think I put 2 or 3 coats on it. This afternoon its supposed to be in the low 90's. I'll take a temp reading inside, outside, and on both surfaces, and I'll let ya know what I find.

Re: ceramic insulative additive for xo- rust/rustoleum ?

The outside temps were about 85-86 degrees today. Outside on the roof the surface temp was 108 degrees. The inside surface of the roof was 85-86 as well. I measured the temps inside and outside in about 4 different places. Using approximately the same location inside and out for temps. Accuracy would be about +- 1 degree. So we have a difference of 22 degrees.

HTH,
