I'm starting this so as to not muddy up a post about window air units.
Some things to consider when modifying heat and air units.
Remember these are just my observations and thoughts, I am not criticizing anyone. I'm old, humor me.
From a post about mounting a window unit on the roof.

remote would simplify things. I'm thinking out loud here so please chime in.

I think you will find that the remote controls on AC units are infrared, meaning that, unless you move it, the front of the AC unit would need to "see" ie: direct line of sight, the remote control. It can be done, I have done it, I took the control panel off of one of the portable ducted AC units and mounted it into a wall.
Any time you duct air to or from something that wasn't originally designed to be ducted, reasonable care must be taken to not restrict the air flow in any way.
It is harder to get cool air to go up and warm air to go down.
My main objections to roof air units are, they are UGLY, this would be even worse, and that "lump" sticking up into the air stream eats fuel mileage.
