covered back porch

Last weekend lisa and I watched blue crush 2(a surfing type movie) there was a bus they used for last half of movie.
It had a back porch that carried the roof line and even arear cap,has any got pictures of similar setups?
I was thinking of doing this so we have a covered "veranda" for grilling(grill will fold/slide out from under canopy) and a glass of wine or coffee.
This would let me move rear bumper etc. Back and have a back wall for mounting spare etc. And a place for fold down side steps.
So when we exited bedroom we had a platform with stairs to the side.
Watcha think?

Re: covered back porch

After reading your post, I streamed that movie just to see the bus (well, I also was an avid surfer for years )...
After slowing it, pausing it, and replaying it...
that particular bus appeared to have moved the door and rear windows forward about three window spaces, then opening the panels at rear.
In other words, the porch was just the back of the bus (original length) opened up, and then re-sealing it closer towards the front...
Pretty cool actually!

Yeah, if you move the bumper back you change the geometery. They were designed to go down and up roads, some skoolies are built for pretty rough road conditions. What I'm trying to say is that if you extend the bumper you might be dragging tail more than you'd like.

Re: covered back porch

The dognoses we've been looking at I'm guessing are mnt buses built for the steep transition here, most off the rear doors are 3-4ft off the ground...after years of 4wheeling I know about departer angle....or the lack of

Re: covered back porch

Here's a bus with a back porch like I think you are describing. I wouldn't pay the price they are wanting for it but I like the porch.

Re: covered back porch

Buses are small enough already. Even my 33 footer is just enough for me. I live in it full time. I would not want to make the back ten feet into a covered porch. I can just go outside to enjoy the weather.

If felt that I needed a back porch, I would make a fold down platform onto which I could attach a removable roof.

Re: covered back porch

I've been thinking about having a small back porch with a side loaded ramp that would I could use to haul our motorcycle when we finally go to full-timing. I'm not wanting it too large, maybe only 5-6 ft wide in the back. That way my hitch stays open for a toad. I'd want it to be open air when we sat back there but would want it to be closed when we store the bike and are on the road. I was thinking of posibbly using the roll down hurricane shutters for the windows and a small shed garage door for the side.

Right now though it is just concept until we decide to replace our current bus.
