If it ends all the spamming and repeating ads I'd gladly pay $5 for listing the occasional vehicle.

Craigslist is losing its relevance, and this is likely a last minute money grab. It might reduce spam posts, well Facebook Marketplace reduces spam posts by associating ads with user accounts... And you can pay for things directly through Facebook marketplace too.

It popped up on the screen when I was posting a new listing.

Interesting. I know it'll cut down on listings for sure. I was planning on listing a car sometime next month and now I'll have to re evaluate how to do so. I like the anonymity that CL offered me vs FB marketplaces

Also I know from experience small time dealers and flippers have been abusing the 'by owner' section to avoid the fee on the dealer side for a long time.

As long as the listing duration is reasonable, I'd give them the $5. Not having to sift through junk and spam postings would save me more then $5 in time.

Last time I posted a job on CL they charged me $30 or $35 to post it and it was good for up to 45 days I think. it ended up not being worth the money but that's a different story I suppose.

$35 would have me thinking twice about it for sure.
$5 to me is a no-brainer. (Though I could argue that it should be only $2 or $3.)

Right, once the barrier of entry goes from nothing to something, the scam posts will basically stop. Heck, make it 50 cents, just above the fees they pay to process a credit card payment, and everybody is happy. $5 was chosen to make money.

Craigslist is nearly irrelevant around here. I still search on it but the listings have definitely fell off from 10 years ago. Most use facebook marketplace. I've found that the ones that still use craigslist are usually the ones who don't have facebook and have no desire to start.

Maybe the 5 dollar fee will eliminate the a$$holes who spam their ads with keywords. I can't stand searching for something and coming across the same person with 30 listings trying to sell something irrelevant to my search. I found someone trying to sell garage clocks and would list every muscle car name or tag line known to man in his ad. He'd upload the same ad twice a day everyday. Try finding mustang parts and coming across the same 30+ listings for a clock. I flagged every one but I doubt it changed.

$5 seems reasonable.... perhaps when people post a car for sale they will have desire to post more than 1 blurry crap picture and 1 incomplete sentence...
