Question Dash Work - remove steering wheel?

Hi,
I need to work on the dash instruments but the steering wheel is blocking the dash board mounting screws. Is it hard to remove the steering wheel? And how is that done?

I also want to put in some insulation and extend the dash to the floor (wood maybe?).

Any advice is appreciated.

2000 Freightliner Blue Byrd, Cummins Deisel 5.9, 36 foot, front engine long nose.

Thanks,
Tim

How adventurous are you mechanically? It's really hard to recommend to do or not do things without knowing what you're comfortable with.

This is interesting because dashboards have been a common problem today, and I've been digging in my dashboard all morning. I didn't accomplish anything except for the education I gained.

I've been working on my dash too. I was able to get a short screw driver behind my steering wheel. Most where stripped anyway so ended up using a grinder with a lot of careful grinding. Will be replacing with Robertson head screws. If the steering wheel is anything like a cars it will probably have a big nut in the middle then you would need a steering wheel puller to get it off.

I don't take electrical stuff apart because it may never work again.

I'm really hoping I can get mine back together and working with no hiccups. I took plenty of pictures to help me remember.

I'm one of those people that can put on a metallic watch and it will stop within 15 minutes. Weird things happen to electronics around me. I've learned to keep my hands off of electrical things as much as possible.

I took the but off my wheel and it won't come off with a puller or even budge...
Any ideas?
