Dimensions for Thomas HDX?

I’m trying to find actual dimensions, especially lengths, for a Thomas HDX rear engine bus.

“Wheelbase” specs are listed everywhere:
181”
209”
238”
267”
277”

Then you get into passenger capacity, which is inconsistent and irrelevant for my conversion project. Also, they like to list “up to” which is OK if you are concerned about maximums. I’m not.

I really want dimension specifications for those shorter wheelbase models (181”). Seems very difficult to find.

A CAD drawing would be ideal.

Any help appreciated!

Bart

My Saf-T-Liner with the Cummins 8.3 and MD3060 has a 277" wheelbase. It's a 40' bus.

I think they set the wheelbase to balance the weight on each axle. It works out at around half the axle weight on each for the unladen bus.

So with two heavy units attached, mine has the longest wheelbase. If you have a lighter engine or transmission, the axle could move forwards a few inches to retain the balance.

The shorter wheelbases in your numbers are for front-engined buses, or shorter overall buses.

OK. I am trying to confirm the shortest length, RE HDX available. If I am reading specs correctly, the RE HDX is available in 181” wheelbase. I’ve not been successful finding actual dimensions of that model.

I think there is a rear-engine bus in the 32 to 35" range.

Thomas' promo material might give you some info.
