Dimensions of Door Opening
Hi Skoolies,
I've finally settled on getting an RE flat nose bus that is as long as possible for full time living, (Thomas, Bluebird, AmTran, etc.). I already have my floorplan figured out complete with furniture and then it dawned on me, will a non-RV sofa fit through the front door opening?
Can someone tell me how wide the opening is with the doors fully open? Is it just as much as a residential house door opening?
Thanks.

With the doors removed, mine is 32" wide by 85" tall. That's metal to metal. Keeping the double doors, I don't know.

Thanks Rhombus. At least that is a starting point. Hopefully someone will respond with the doors wide open but still attached. Thanks.

If all else fails you can pop out a windshield and stuff what you need in that way.

Thanks Alan. I guess that would be an option but I'm thinking the window opening height and width would still be too small to fit a 3 seat sofa through.
If all else fails I guess I could try and find a RE transit style bus parked in my area and jump out with my tape measure. Mostly just conventional style buses in my area though.

Lots of stuff could come in through the rear emergency exit window.
My plan is to buy a futon sofa and assemble it inside the bus.

Hey Dan, yeah I had forgotten about the rear window. If it were just me in the bus I'd be doing the same thing as you. But since my wife and I will both be living in it full time she wants a nice leather sofa in there.

Umm.. nobody mentioned emergency exit door? Ours is smaller than our Wheelchair lift door, but would still fit a couch through it.

Good point Nomad, I had forgotten about that. I wanted to put the furniture in last after all my construction was complete, but I guess i could skin over the exit door area last and then put the paint on last as well. Thanks.

I'm going with a daybed and a twin mattress. It'll clear the front wheel arch and give me some comfy sitting, plus extra snooze room for visitors of the non-female persuasion.
