Dt466e alternator removal.

The pivot bolt that the alternator rests on is stuck. It won't rotate and won't pound out. Heat and pb blaster does nothing. Confused as to why it don't come out. Any ideas?

if you remove the other brackets around the alternator will the whole alternator and bolt spin as one? im assuming you cant get an impact in there to bang on it?

The bolt is stuck in the steel sleeve or most likely the aluminum parts of the alternator. Find out what part it's stuck in and use some heat on the stuck section with a hand torch.

I can remove the bracket below it (along with it) but that bolt will still be stuck. It's probably frozen in the sleeve. Or something. I've had a torch on it. 6' bar....5 lb. Sledge from behind.
Hope it doesn't go out anytime soon. Most likely leave it in. I like my 360 alternator.

If you don’t have to yank it then id keep hitting it with PB every day or two.. that stuff works on over time, esp with heating and cooling like it will see when being driven.

escalate the attack

Well, if the alternator is broken, then you cant break it. Right?

heat to the point the steel is glowing orange, drown the thing in penetrating oil. In the end you can cut the alternator off then work on the bolt.

Would you post some really up close pictures of the pivot bolt... and both ends of the bolt, especially then with the threads. Is the bolt going though a sleeve?

The bolt in question. The alternator pivots freely on that very bolt. Click image for larger version
