Re: DTA360 questions...
I drove many thousands of miles in a bus with a dt360, including a few trips from michigan to nevada and back. (about 5K miles each trip) One trip i pulled a trailer and was loaded about 6K pounds over the gvw. I drove her full throttle for about 110 hours roundtrip. She just kept pulling like a freight train. I had about 200K miles on it when i sold it and still running strong.
I had poor highway gears in the bus. I got about 7-9 mpg at a bit over 60 mph.
The final trip i made to nevada and back i had "turned up" the hp and the speed. I found that if i continued to drive just over 60 mph, i actually got better fuel economy, and i could accelerate and pull the long hills faster.
I definitely recommend turning up the hp and the rpm's. simple, free, and relatively safe. putting in an exhaust gas temp gauge would make it 100% safe.
I think the 360 is the same block as the 466, just different cylinders.
Fuel economy is not that great. My buddy with a 5.9 cummins motor (and better highway gears, and better trans) got about 50% better fuel economy than i did on our trip to texas and back in his blue bird tc2K.
the dt motor was a good cold starter. I could outstart phil's 5.9 cummins when it got below freezing.
the 5.9 cummins is my favorite skoolie motor because of it's fuel efficiency.
