Engine warning light

Ok so I finally got the bus up and running and it's about 90% converted. I started it up and drove it to get emissions testing so it can get registered.

On the way over a light and buzzer pops on the exact light shows " ENG WRNG" . All temps looks good on gauges? I changed fuel filter, air filter, oil and oil filter. Still pops up

Not sure how to troubleshoot this.

three biggies

That come to mind right away.

engine oil pressure... low = stop the engine right now.

engine temperature watch and slow down over 220 over 230 stop it

exhaust temperatures over 1300 for more than ten seconds or so. down shift and slow down

If it is an electronically-controlled engine, get a scangauge-D or similar type scan tool (assuming you have a J1708 diagnostic coonnector). That will be allow you to see the engine data and it can give you the exact fault codes...
If it a mechanical engine - hopefully someone with more experience with those will chime in

It's the Cummins 5.9 12v so it's all mechanical. It starts at about 10 to 15 minutes into the ride. I'm watching the other gauges and I don't see anything overheating maybe there's a sensor out?

Do you have a low coolant sensor? The sensor is usually located on the front top of the radiator. With the engine cold jump out the sensor and see if that lamp illuminates.

I drove it for a little while longer and the low coolant light comes on even though I know I just topped off the coolant so is this a known issue?

Topping off the radiator does not necessarily mean it is full.

Leave the rad cap off and idle the engine.
Watch at the radiator cap and you will see air bubbles coming out of the system.

You may have a lot of air in there or very little but it could bring on your warning light if still low. Add your antifreeze mix slowly and when no more bubbles appear, put the rad cap back on and go for a drive for a while.
Fill the expansion tank too the full hot mark on it.

Your light might go off then or you might have a leak somewhere and loose the antifreeze.
Check it everyday to see how it goes till you see an improvement.

Look on the engine side of the de-aeration tank Tom, it's black with 2 wires. Sometimes they fail or need cleaning.

My 91 tc 2000 5.9 cummins at 545 has a procedure in the operators manual on filling the trans heat exchanger and bleeding it off back in to the radiator
