Exterior PA?

Does anyone else have one of these under the hood?

I am guessing its a exterior pa because I have a switch by the helm that says int/ext..

And the interior pa works, but the exterior doesn't do anything. Any ideas on how to get it working again.

Or if that's even what it is..

Re: Exterior PA?

If you are still in Ca. an outside speaker on a non emergency vehicle will get you a hefty fine--exceptions for icecream trucks and the like but otherwise strictly enforced. Just a heads up.

Re: Exterior PA?

..and yes I'm in california, but just for the holidays, I'll be back in Oregon soon.

Is it illegal in Oregon too?
..either way I don't know how anyone would know unless I use it in public

Re: Exterior PA?

That's a speaker, all right. It could have been for a PA, or an outside speaker for a 2-way radio. I would not think that a school bus would have an outside radio speaker, as the driver would be expected to stay in the cab. An outside radio speaker would be more for a DOT crew or emergency responders to get called back to the radio from the roadside (if they did not carry portable radios).

A PA is more likely. All the new buses around here seem to have them on the roof, it may be a requirement in some states. I presume it is so the driver can give loading/unloading safety instructions to daydreaming students.

If Ol' Trunt says it's illegal in CA, it is. He would know. Get out the wire cutters and a wrench.

Re: Exterior PA?

I have SOOOOO planned out my cb/pa setup for the bus.....

Its nothing really special other than I want it LOUD. Theres nothing like messing with people at stop lights...going down the road...etc.

The plan is your standard run of the mill cb with an external PA output. Most of them are 1/8 inch phono jacks so that output will go a VERY inexpensive audio amplifier with line/high gain inputs. <<<< THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT THE AMP HAS THIS. That way you take the speaker output for the amp in put.

The typical amp wire up will be needed for the rest of that component. It should be pretty straight forward. Next connect a couple of 100 watt outdoor PA speakers.

Im sure some of us are of the age to where we have seen this commercial....and yes we thought it was cool back then but a PA will blow doors on that setup.

Here is an example of the type of amp I will use...

Re: Exterior PA?

Phooey on laws....pa systems having fun are exempt...except in the sovereign country of kalifornia

Don't cuss anyone at a light and you can have fun,

Back in 1987 I had manican body parts..(sounds kinda of creepy now adays ) not abnormal to have an arm or leg sticking out from hood with someone saying help, let me out....

It was cool back then....maybe not now....

If 5-0 or po-po around don't use it
