Flooring Options

I'm starting a new thread so as to not hijack the floor insulation thread...

I'm about to start a skoolie project, and flooring will one of the first issues I have to tackle. What recommendations do people have about flooring?

These are my (ranked) priorities:
1. Maximum headroom is essential
2. There needs to be some sort of thermal/sound barrier under the flooring.
3. It needs to be affordable
4. I prefer hard flooring rather than carpet

Also, I will not have much open floor space in my design. I could conceivably use different flooring under beds, bathroom, kitched cabinets, etc. as opposed to what is in the open space. So far though, I'm thinking my best option may be linoleum over plywood. But that just doesn't sound very inspiring.

Thanks!

The current flooring is 3/4" plywood + 1/4" black rubber. With this combo the headroom is 6'5". I cannot have any less headroom than that. So I am restricted to 1" of flooring material total.

Re: Flooring Options

So in terms of plywood, am I right in assuming that anything less than 3/4" is probably not good? If I went with 1/2" ridgid insulation and 1/2" plywood, would the floor flex too much? Or have other problems?

Re: Flooring Options

Thanks for the advice Smitty. I will have a better sense of the actual headroom when I pick up the bus this weekend. The seller says current headroom is 6'5". I am 6'4". So every fraction of an inch is critical here. I may have to settle for just 3/4" plywood and Linoleum. The whole reason for getting a Thomas hightop is so I will not be stooping. So that is really my first priority.

Like you, I have spinal problems and like to cook and eat. That is the exact reason I want the headroom. I don't really know yet how much time will be spent standing in the bus, but having my back act up in the middle of a vacation because I'm stooping/slouching around in the bus would really suck.

I'll definitely bring a camera and try my best to document my project as it progresses.

Moderator: is there a way to just combine these three threads into one?
