Flooring question

I've got a shortie and am about ready to start working on the floors. Seats have been removed. My partner in crime and I disagree about removing the floors to expose sub floors; I want to put wood flooring down. He thinks I don't need to remove the floors to expose the sub floor, and that I can just go ahead and put flooring down. I think it will be easier to put flooring on the sub floors.

Thoughts?

Nearly all the Skoolies I have seen needed work on the metal under the plywood. Some not much...others completely rusted through in areas. To my mind, building on top of an unknown foundation is bad science. At the very least, most folks clean & rust treat the metal floor before investing in interior work.
