FOAMULAR directly to metal not recommended ?

Has anyone read this :

"Note to Specifier: Only THERMAPINK® insulation is intended for use directly over steel roof decks with no thermal barrier, constructed in accordance with UL Roof Deck Construction #457. FOAMULAR® or THERMAPINK® insulation may be used over steel deck WITH thermal barrier when needed for FM Class I, or when the limits of UL construction #457 are exceeded. Tapered systems that, by design, vary in maximum thickness, and often have greater maximum thicknesses, should be verified for compliance with UL construction #457."

looks like you still need thermal barrier to use FOAMULAR as insulation?

This came out from the official website, one of the documents called "foamular thermal new roof below"

For context, that note is specifically calling out roof decks, not all metal generally. In the construction they're describing I believe the foam would be going on the outdoor side of the roof deck. A common approach to commercial flat roof design is to build a deck with wood or metal, then layer insulation board on top, and cap it all with a membrane to keep the water out. It's with that lay-up in mind that I would guess the note is concerned with the potential for a fire below the roof, ie inside the building, to heat the roof deck enough to melt or even ignite the insulation on the other side. A thermal barrier would prevent or at least delay that outcome.

IMHO if there's a fire raging up against the metal on the outside of my bus skin, melting or ignition of the insulation pressed against the inside of the bus is probably low on my list of worries.

I see now , ok not the same application.

In my case I'm trying to decide what to do with insulation because I can't really wait for the spring( it is -7C here) to have spray foam installed ( my prefered choice) so I was looking to some alternatives.
