Free to Use Nex IQ 2 USB
I have a knockoff Nex IQ 2 USB that I used to modify some of my buses computer settings ... enabled cruise control, increased top speed, etc. This community has been very good to me and I'd like to let others use the device for free. If you're an experienced or well established member on the Skoolie forums and you're okay with paying shipping both ways, leave a response below. I'd be happy to lend it out. This is on the honor system. They go for like $700 with the knock offs going for $300, and while I know most of us can't afford this level of luxury we should still be able to modify the computers without driving into a dealership. Thanks ...

For me, removing the speed limiter was a big one. My bus wouldn't budge past 55mph and that sucked in the mountains or hilly terrain when I was going downhill and want to build momentum for the next hill. The engine would just cut out after I got to the top. I also was able to enable cruise control, which the school district had disabled by default. You can't increase HP or doing anything too drastic.

Very cool, Let me ask a newby question if that device could also work with changing the speed limit and enabling cruise control on a mercedes mbe906 engine?
Coming onto cruise controls. our bus would need to have the wiring for switches installed . Is that hardwired to the ECM/?
Thank you J

Christopher turned on my cruise control and raised my speed limiter last time I saw him, he's such a pal!

The device is the interface that allows the laptop to interpret the incoming data-stream.
To make changes to a specific brand, you need the software for that engine.
If Mercedes have made that available, or if it has been cracked, then yes.

twigg has it right.. the NexiQ is just the hardware device.. Most all Medium / Heavy duty software programs support the NexiQ as a valid RP1210 device for talking to the vehicle.. Navistar is nice and gives away the old version of their software used to change parameters on most of our old busses.. exverything up through 2006..
I dont know about cummins or freightliner / Cat / Mbe if they have free versions of their software or not..

Yes but the nexiq2 usb knockoff like on ebay for $216 free ship has the dddl software , and about all others included.
So I guess the question to warewolff is what software he has with the hardware.

Do note that when working with the cracked versions of ECM software, at minimum install it in a throw-away virtual machine; a throw-away computer might be even better. It's "not unheard of" that cracked warez may carry virus payloads that the original/legitimate software didn't have.

Right, they do.
However, I have been hearing that those software packages might not be Manna from Heaven.
Some of them might need registration, or log-ins to work so a hunt around various forums where the guys use this stuff, might help.

I talked to a couple people who bought those "pre-made" laptops with the software already installed and the results were disappointing.. ofr instance the allison DOC software was such an old version that it wouldnt work with any of ther TCM's that are remotely current, and wasnt the pro version that allows full adjustments. the Navistar software was the same thing that you can DL for free.. they did put NavKal on it but the "hacked" account for it had already been disabled by navistar. the DDEC software worked to some extent. I dont know if those pre-made laptops are the same software that comes with the Knock-off Nexiq but im guessing it is..
most of this stuff is going subscription based.. I own and have a subscription to NavKal. and it requires im connected to the internet before the program even opens and runs..

I didn't know it was selling for $216 on eBay. I ordered what was supposed to be genuine, turned out to be a knockoff, complained, was refunded, and kept the device. It's worked fine for me. Came with a bunch of [cracked] software. So I got it basically for free and it served my needs.

Well that is the best proof that it worked. Can you look if the DDDL 6.5 is included in the software? Can you PM me your address or how to transfer money?

from what I understand the hardware in the knockoff version is the real deal.. (just sold direct to someone else other than Nexiq.,. Nexiq Sources those likely from. the same factory)... theres every reason to believe it should work perfect..
neat that it came with a bunch of programs too.. sometimes you can find those programs on car technology or mhh auto, there are medium / heavy duty threads there..

tried to sign up yesterday for mmh but they wanted $25 registration fee.
Was not sure if that was a scam or not so I let it be.
For my mbe906 engine 2003 ( non egr) I need the dddl 6.5x version. I am not sure if that can only read parameters or also set simple stuff like max speed.

Cadillackid, the hardware is also cracked I think. Original cables are microchipped or something. I should add that I think the only cracked cable still in my posession is the J1708 9 pin. Might limit the usefulness of it to forum members. Sorry!

wow i didnt notice anything special about my cable..wouldnt surprise me if they did something to them though on the original.
mine came with a double headed cable 6 pin J1708 and 9 pin J1939.. the older busses will have the 6 pin connector.. the newer navistars seem to habve the 9 pin connector even though the engine is still J1708...
my NexiQ devices shows up in windows as an RP1210 device recognized by any RP1210 drivers.. im guessing yours will too. or the Servicemaxx software would fail to run. Nexiq may have their drivers programmed to look for a signature in the USB ID of authentic devices...
