Front landing/step removal

In my cut-away bus, the bus body has a triangular section welded that extends the body into the cab. I would like to remove this section to make it easier for a co-pilot to put their feet down, and possibly put a seat in that part of the cab. For anyone with one of these busses, is there anything structural with that front section? It doesn't appear so to me, and seems like it's not really attached much at all to the cab. Thoughts?

Chris

PS - Yes one of today's other projects is to finish cleaning all the splinters from the bus!
