FS-65 Roof Raising??
Hello! First post here on skoolie! I searched google but didn't find an answer. I also used the group search but didn't really find an answer either. I'm hoping the communicty can give me some insight... i'm sure this has been done many times.
I have a bluebird built 2000 Fs-65 (frieghtliner) and am looking to raise the roof height. I will be using the bus primairly for a toy hauler but want to keep the rear portion enclosed if i can, such that my toys are inside the bus. I took a portion of the rear inside sheet metal off above the windows towards the rear of the bus. It appears from first glance that the support sections going over the top (forming the roof) from each side actually bolt on above the windows... in other words the roof bolts on! If this is the case, it should be pretty easy for me to build a new rectuanular frame the length of the bus, then bolt the exisitng roof back on the heightened frame.
Does this sound correct? Thanks for all input! Located in Boone, Iowa

Sounds fairly reasonable. Most people seem to cut above the windows to try and keep the wall stronger.
Then again there are people like myself that don't think buses should loose their structural integrity by being cut and changed. There's lots of junior structural engineer talk on this site on this subject.
Like we all say, make it what you want it to be. Just try to be safe.

One of the engineers who designed this came out and checked over my plans for a roof raise and said it would be fine to go ahead. He's no junior engineer.
