Ground clearance

We are planning on mounting the outside unit of the mini split under our bus leaving 1ft of ground clearance. Our bus is 31ft long. We plan on mounting it in front of the rear passenger side tire. I know some of you have mounted them underneath and I'm wondering what clearance you have and if your satisfied with it. All opinions and knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

That sounds like a safe place to me.

I'm imagining a 1x1x1 cube sitting in front of your wheel, and I can't easily picture it getting there while going under the front end of the bus.

That's also a common place for underbelly storage boxes and other accesories to be placed, so I think it should be fine.

My mini split is level with the bottom of the skirt, but we camped next to a converted coach this summer that looked like it only had about a foot of ground clearance everywhere. It was a pusher and had rollers on the back bumper to help keep it from hanging up on stuff.
