Harbor Freight HVLP question?

Hello Everyone,

I read a thread a while back regarding painting buses. A member made some solid recommendations regarding using the HVLP gun from Harbor Freight.

Now that I am ready to buy an HVLP gun I cannot find that thread to see which one to buy.

Does anyone remember that thread? Or, have good firsthand recommendations regarding HF's HVLP offering and which one I should buy?

Thanks.

S.

You want the 2 gun kit. I'm 1/2 done painting my bus and it looks amazing. I have Binks pressure pot $$$ gun and like this better.

I've got this rig and it's worked very well on spraying thinned deck stain for me.

Thanks for the input Gentlemen.

I don't recall the one that was recommended as coming in the 2 gun kit.

But, if that one works well then I am good with it.

What paint, thinner, hardener mix are you spraying??

Thanks again.

The guy really explains well. I have the other HF guns, but went out and got the purple set when he suggested it- it is near foolproof. If you have a decent air compressor, this works very well. They also sell a pack of 5 disposable paint cups- wise investment.

I'm doing the Rust-Oleum route. I phosphate power washed, sanded w #220, wiped w thinner, primed w white primer (tinted blu).

Paint is:
5 parts Rust-Oleum
2 parts acetone
.3 parts enamel hardener

2 thin coats paint i think will be enough

Looking good

Happy with it- can't compare to $500/gallon Imron. Plenty of orange peel here !

Using rustoleum andthe HF purple HVLP right now. I've used it for like 5 jobs in the past and works well imo. The two pack they sell is the same thing as the single, but the smaller gun just has a different tip size, iirc. The two videos that were posted are good. Just follow them and you should be fine.

Thanks for all of the help.

I picked up the two pack at HF along with strainers and disposable cups.

Paint is looking great Rusty.
