It shouldn't be too hard to move the awning to the other side of the trailer. As for being too tall, I'm not so sure that is a probelm... The trailers that Dominic's of NY has in front of all the Lowes stores is up there too, they just made the windows low on the wall and the concessionaire inside has to bend over a little when conducting the transaction... You trailer wouldn't be much different.
You are worried about people falling when approaching or exiting via the elevated stand, I'd be more worried about them banging their heads on the extended awning rails (I have done that one or two times myself and I owned the thing)... I think I'd hang a string of pendants or flags on each one to keep them noticable...
