Under the bus is a plastic barrel and the waste line enters the barrel at the bottom...And there's no obvious vent.
We know how well that will work....I hope!

Well....... constructively speaking: the vinyl tube section could provide good vibration resistance. And it does have a P trap of sorts.

Entering the waste tank at the bottom isn't inherently bad I suppose. Probably the biggest drawbacks to the approach shown are that there's no vent above the P trap level, so water flowing down the pipe will siphon the contents out of the trap and render it ineffective. Also there's the obvious problem of needing a way to vent air out of the tank as water flows in. While the 3/4" PVC and 1/2" vinyl tube certainly can carry water, the drain rate should be expected to be slow.

Maybe backups at the sink are a way of compelling water consumers to moderate their usage..?

I'm not understanding why they built their own P-trap from numerous fittings, and secondly why it would be necessary to visually see the waste water flowing. I don't like to see the hair clogs.

LOL, this isn't far off from what I did haha. Due to the way my tanks are mounted, the water drains into the tanks at the bottom, cause there wasn't room for the pipes to enter at the top. I used flexible pool vacuum hose for part of the drain with a waterless P trap, but not reduced to that stupid tiny size haha. As a result of the water draining at the bottom of the tank, I had to put in an extra set of vents in the plumbing for it to flow correctly. Definitely not the best design, but it DOES work. Just not the way its done here.

Well, it WILL work but the cobbled up trap will freeze and split come winter and it will be interesting to see what those chains do to his grey tank. Worst part is that it would have been cheaper to do it right. This guy has all kinds of goofy ideas, one of which is to build a "battery bank" out of rechargeable AA cells and charge it with a 5 watt solar panel. Another is to use the sink as a urinal. And the biggest irony of all is he calls the previous owners "hillbillies."

I still can't figure out why this "it" needed a visual pipe in his drain.

That Rain-or-Shine glue definitely comes apart in frozen weather. Use primer and glue.
