how to keep floor at the same level?

Hi.

So after installing the hydronic heat I bought the plywood for the floor and starting installing it today and I notice with the heat some pieces start warping a bit and after securing it down the joints between each panels are not level.

I was planing to install vinyl so I bought sanded finish plywood no tong and groove and I think that was a mistake but now I need to find a way to fix it.

I was thinking about those metal plates that you can hammer down or something like that, to be honest I don't want to have to buy 1/4 inch and put it down since I already lost a bunch of head room because of the floor insulation.

any ideas ?

Well, you don't want to puncture your pex...

Only thing I can think of is a bunch of countersunk large head screws- there was a member here who found some nice flat head hex screws with big, flat heads to keep your curly edges down.

if you are adventuresome, you could add the T & G to the ply...

Ohhh I should have mention, I'm not going to drill holes in the floor since is a floating floor and all the wholes in the floor were repaired so I do not want to have to screw trough the floor if I can avoid it.

Brainstorming here...

You could inlet some aluminum bar stock into the ends of the plywood sheets such that it spans the two sheets then fasten it to both sheets to tame your curl. A router would make quick work of it but you could also use repeated passes with a circular saw to cut the "rabbet" as the woodworkers call it. That would give you a level surface to install your floor over.

If you have enough space under the plywood you could put wood blocks under the ply at the gap and screw both sheets into that from above.

If the curl doesn't get much worse you may be able to sand down the high spots with a belt sander.

Are you using pressure treated plywood? If so, good luck. I built some storage cabinets out of that stuff and they warped so bad I to use 1/4" cable and a big turnbuckle to force them back into square.

I thought about doing that, I do have a router.

I'm using ACC type plywood so is good quality stuff I guess.

I was going to pex my floor too...scary! I wonder what can be done beforehand to prevent the warping.

the hydronic heat has nothing to do with the warping, my heat is not even connected.

any piece of plywood will warp if left in a hot place with not weights on top
