Make it Bombay Sapphire and I'll see you at RE:HAB manana...about 5-ish. Not really. I've stuck with my Myer's & soda for over 50 years...no need to switch now.

YellowBus:

That is what I am envisioning if I start tinkering with a variable speed diesel DC generator.

A 5-8 horsepower horizontal shaft diesel motor driving an automotive alternator to charge batteries and feed the inverter.

It won't replace an 8kw generator but, along with solar, should meet my simple needs.

1st off I'll say I loath Ryobi power tools.
But... I found two Honda clones outside Home Depot over the last two years and bought both. They are actually 2200 watts (hondas are 2000)and just a little louder than the ultra quiet honda. Retail is 600 ea. I only paid 250 ea! so keep an eye out there where they have marked down returned stuff on the contractor side.
Mine start 1st pull every time, and one can run my mini fridge and 1300 BTU rooftop a/c. although, the parallel kit is available for 100.00
They are like neon green though, just screams homeowner tools. and a cheesy retractable handle and razor scooter wheels. lame.
I don't have either mounted.
