Is this a fair price?

Alright fam, I’ve got a bus in my crosshairs and I’ve got a huge crush on it. Would like to know if you think it’s a fair asking price. Hope I’m giving enough details below to avoid shame.

$10,000
2009 Thomas pusher, diesel
No mechanical issues (stated by seller when I asked)
No rust
Mercedes engine (drool)
3000 tranny (drool)
115xxx miles
38 ft
New tires (drool)
Selling because school isn’t renewing lease on them. 1 of 3 left.

Is that enough info for you all to weigh in with opinions?

The engine, mileage, and tranny all sound good.

New tires are a plus, too. How much would they cost on their own?

I like the bus, but it sounds a little expensive.
On the other hand, if it fits your budget and you like it, I don't see any red flags.

Question

09 model could develop expensive and hard to diagnose electronic emission equipment problems. Mercedes are expensive to work on. School not renewing lease for a reason. Price is not out of line for that year model.

I would have to agree with above posts. Sounds a little on the expensive side, but not much with the new tires and being in good shape. Also, I cannot imagine how expensive it will be to diagnose and repair a mercedes engine. You may have problems finding shops even able to work on it.

Thanks Marc, can you tell me more about the issues with the 09 models? Why are they prone to issues?

NM I just read through some old posts and see it’s not just 2009 but anything post 2007 (or 2004 - posts seemed to say one of these two years was the start of the emissions regulations). Thanks!

It's not just the 09's The Federal government instituted new EPA rules in 04 which added a lot of emission equipment on the motor that was prone to issues that are hard to diagnose and expensive to repair. It's due to this that you will start seeing more buses being liquidated long before the normal 15 year lifespan before needing more maintenance. Most of us here pretty much stay in the 03 and older models.
