Just did front brakes on my 89 C60

Well I just finished the front brakes.
Last time i had my bus out the brakes went soft about 1/2 to my destination. Once I got there I notice that I was out of brake pad. I had no choice but to drive it home 80 miles at a slow speed.
I pulled the wheels off and found the caliper pistons deteriorating so I replace the calipers also.
You would think that working at a chevy dealer I would be able to get the right calipers. I took about 3 tries to get the right ones, I actually went through NAPA. Calipers cost me $80 each and pads were $70 for AC Delco.
All in all the job went quite smooth, My only complaint was the stupid wheel design, I spent at least 15 min on each wheel getting it centered and true.
Total time invested just about 1.5 hrs.
Anybody have tricks for centering the 5 spoke i beleive dayton style wheels?

insall the wheels and just run the hardware up snug, then set a block or something next to the tire, spin the tire to check axial runout, tighten the nut that comes closest to the block first, spin and repeat when the wheel runs true tighten all lugnuts to spec.

Re: Just did front brakes on my 89 C60

I also just replaced the front calipers on my 88 C60. I had a problem with dragging brakes. On my last trip just before I got home things go so hot on one side that I lost the plastic cover on one of my hub caps (loosing most oil to the bearings). Luckily it was only a few miles from home so no damage. I could feel the brakes dragging some but I didn't realize how hot they got. I now have new calipers & rubber lines. After a test drive I think I'm back in business. I'll be watching the temps on our trip tomorrow (with a laser thermometer).
