Re: List of Bus Yards & Graveyards
Interesting. I live in Texas and it seems that just about every state has school bus depots, yards, etc except Texas, well maybe I found one dealer in Houston
Does anyone know about a place near Dallas where I can go see if I can find a bus?

Re: List of Bus Yards & Graveyards
Whoa....
I just read through this thread, and saw some folks had been talking about replacing broken windows with ordinary glass....
Forgive a new member for presuming to give advice, but....
On side or back glass, balance economy vs. safety, but for a windshield- get an actual automotive safety glass replacement.
Standard glass turns into hundreds of foot-long spears which fly at you at highway speed, should anything bounce up and strike it while you're in motion.

Re: List of Bus Yards & Graveyards
I don't think anyone recommended using ordinary glass, I think they were talking about the windshield being flat glass, therefore easier to cut to fit by a glass shop. I don't think a glass shop would even install ordinary glass in place of safety glass for liability reasons.

Re: List of Bus Yards & Graveyards
I hope so...What an ugly mental picture popped into my head when I thought of a windshield-shatter at 60MPH, with plate glass.
I didn't know it was possible to purchase dimensional sheets of safety glass, which could then be cut to size...

Re: List of Bus Yards & Graveyards
I dont think there's a bus wrecking yard in Nor Cal, but if anyone knows a good place to score a 1993-1995 DT466, that would be great! I only know of Valley truck in Fresno. There's a bus wrecker down by LA somewhere(so I've heard), I just dont know the name.

Acme in Stockton on Wilson has a lot of motors, but not for cheap.

Oh, I know! I've seen their prices.
I get better pricing from Valley Truck, but at 35-4500, it's still close to buying a whole bus.

Re: List of Bus Yards & Graveyards
One thing about Acme is they guaranty their motors. They actual do a partial teardown to check out the motor. After that, they run it on a dyno. I know that doesn't mean a whole lot for the skoolie crowd, but if I had to buy a motor for a truck I used to put food on the table, that would be the way to go.

Re: List of Bus Yards & Graveyards
I'm still going to tear into it. They may not warranty it in a drag racing Super Duty . Yes, I'm slipping a DT466 in a 99 Super Duty F250. I have to do a few things like o-ring the head, port it, and install head & main studs, but that's mainly it for the inside. I guess that's not much on topic.....sorry.

Re: List of Bus Yards & Graveyards
Definitely want to see pictures. I like pictures. I have a DT466 in my Intl rated at 210hp. Where can I find info on getting a few more horses without doing anything crazy or expensive? I'm sure you've already looked into the subject.

Re: List of Bus Yards & Graveyards
I made a little post on the how-to section about just that. There's also a link in my signature. You have the best version of 466 to modify. It uses a fuel plate just like the ones they use in the 94-98 Dodge/Cummins. It'll be a whole new animal after you slide the fuel plate, & make a couple other adjustments. I sent you a PM.
Oh, and the pix of my lack of progress:

Re: List of Bus Yards & Graveyards
While there may be many things I have put my fingers into and on, a fuel injection pump is not one of them. I'm a little worried about screwing it up. You're local to me. Do you mind if I send you a PM?

I'll be right over ,wait a min.
I need directions first.
Oh, the videos: First is the 466 from 0-56mph:
Then, same truck showing the rpm limit:
There's a couple more of a Ford 7.8 that "somehow" lost the muffler:

Re: List of Bus Yards & Graveyards
I'd like to second the shout out for Zia Bus Sales, in Albuquerque, NM. I also got my 1985 6 window Wayne/Lifeguard IHC bus from there and i love that place. I used to go there on weekends and just play around and day dream in their buses on site, and they have a full garage for doing repairs. They also had this sweeeet 20's or 30's restored bus in there, absolutely beautiful! I even took a girlfriend of mine who also was a skoolie enthusiast there!
