Little help with locks

Someone posted a few picks of using a house door dead bolt on the emergency exit door to secure the inside handle from outside.

I have tried the search function and can't seem to use the right words to get it to come up.

Can anyone with more than one brain cell functioning right now help me with the location of this thread??

Thanks,
Scott

Here you go...Let me know if you need more info

In the 1st pic I had to add a pice of key stock to the latch to take up the space between the dead bolt and lock bar.....The pic does't show that...

YESSSSSS!!!!

Those are the pics I was looking for. I tried to explain to my home store guy what I was looking to do and he looked at me like I was from Mars.

What brand is that? I hope you don't mind if I copy your fantastic idea!

Thanks,
Scott

Any deadbolt in that external mount configuration would work. You just don't want to buy the kind that recesses inside a doorframe.

The one in the photos is a no-name. The store gets to put their own name on the bag, if they choose. The combo Phillips/slotted screws are a clue it is a do-it-yourself brand. The big brands usually have their name proudly cast into the inside and outside of the lock.

The one sales question in buying deadbolt locks that confuses people is "Single-cylinder or double-cylinder?" While "double-cylinder" sounds more secure, what it really means is you need a key to get OUT as well as get in. One cylinder outside, and one cylinder inside. These are for residence doors where a thief might break the glass to turn the inside handle and unlock the door. Or places you don't trust kids or employees. The lock in the photo is a single-cylinder type.

Re: Little help with locks

Lowes didnt have em here. I had to go to a locksmith shop. Cost me under $20. Mine is a bit different, but works well. I stole the idea from Kirby too. Here is mine:
