Re: Longest School Bus newer than 1994

...in my corner of the world, überlong buses are a no-no!

The longest you see are Cross-nation 45-ft 2-floor unts with 4 axles - highway only!

A few month ago I saw some "cross-country machines" in Bolivia!!
TRUCK-engine-trans-combo, 2 axles, 2-floor bus, but the lower deck is ALL for luggage and cargo, and the whole bus is LIFTED, like spring-over axle!!
Leaning like crazy on the highway at speed, but going the "normal" country roads they need the added ground clearance - quite an interesting study!

Hope to get back there again sometime soon, then I will search them out and take a load of pics!

Re: Longest School Bus newer than 1994

I tried, but between stuffing my gear into the bus and watching that no one is lifting anything off, it was starting to drizzle, at 22:30 and trying hard with the smartphone - but nothing worthy came off it!

...next time!

Here you have a few off the internet (google image is your best friend!)

...on that last two: that is the EXACT route I came down the mountain! This is a MAIN ROAD CONNECTION in Bolivia! Road repair is a 24/7 affair and blocked roads are normal. This pic is from a newspaper clip anouncingh that the road is blocked by trucks due to heavy rain. On the way out the bus had to switch-back on two curves as they were too tight for a one-go around.....
[I came in and out twice before in a Toyota HiLux - 4x4 pick up and was quite surprised by the size of bus that could go that route...]

My goal is, to get "my bus" to be ableo to navigate this kind of roads!!

Re: Longest School Bus newer than 1994

My camera phone NEVER takes photos in the rain. Reason 1 to invest in a proper camera. Or maybe a GoPro. I made faces at the GoPro the local coppers are now wearing everywhere.

You better bring us some pics next time or you're getting a rolled up newspaper to the snoot!

Damn, I'll have to look into the GoPros now. *Long suffering sigh* A researcher's job is never done. 9_9

Re: Longest School Bus newer than 1994

Oooooo, nice Mercedes. I'll be dogged, though, that palmtree and sun emblem looks almost like my door emblem for the bus!

HOLY CRAP WHAT THE CRAP IS THAT??

Push on three! One...two...thre- I said on three! Why did you start pushing on two?

WHOA! Looks like the road going through the Gorge (was that the Gorge? I dunno) back in NC! ....damn, I actually miss that road.

Uh, no.

OH HELL NAH. Mud AND burning engine?? NO.

I've decided you're the guy in the blue hat. I knowya likely ain't, but that's what I've decided. You're Blue hat Guy, Thomas.

Man, that last one is a frame grab from some very bad news. The passengers got out before the driver attempted the maneuver.

Re: Longest School Bus newer than 1994

Hey aaronsb,

....didn't see that one (youtube vid) before, but after going through that stretch a few times I am not the least surprised!!
I even commented a few times to co-travelers, that on THIS side of the pass there are at least tress and brush to stop a vehicle or let it slide slowly!
On the other side it is small bushes, dirt and rocks and free-fall all the way down!!

This is in Spanish, but the 1st part shows a bus EXACTLY like the one I used, lifted!!

Cheers,
