mount horizontal propane tank under bus?

has anyone mounted a larger, horizontal propane tank, under the bus? I am interested to move this fuel source out of the passenger cabin, but am unsure if it is risky to have it mounted to the underside, such as what if some road rock hits the tank, or if a car runs into the bus, etc.? I would probably put the propane tank next to the 60 gallon diesel tank, which hangs down about 4-5" lower than the propane tank would, and it's relatively near the front axle too. thoughts? Here is the tank I'm considering...

that is a nice setup.

DOT approved. you should be good to go.

you might check out your local propane supplier, they're likely to have one for sale too. they'd probably it for install for a fee.

This is what I did, using uni strut to build the mounting frame then mounted expanded metal underneath it &. I'm working on solid piece sides now. Oh & their mounted next to a 112gal diesel tank, there's proably about a foot between them.

Looks good. I welded the hangers for mine and placed it behind the passenger side rear tires. It is a much smaller unit for a much smaller bus. And you are correct to try and give it as much ground clearance as possible but make sure it is readily accessible for filling.

The hole you are looking through is now an access hatch.

Did you know that you get propane at cost when you buy at U-haul and purchase at least 30 gallons? Perfect for RVs or skoolies with large tanks. That 29.3 gallon tank is almost there.

I'll have to remember that, one is 24.3 gal the other 24.9, I also want to add another one for propane injection.

Some of the U-haul guys get crabby about selling it at cost. It's been some kind of ongoing thing at U-haul for years and is usually the cheapest in town. You'll notice that some of them place trailers all around the propane area to make it nearly impossible for a bus or RV to get to it. I have some larger tanks that I take in on a flatbed.
