Thanks. The 85 was my second or third bus. This one is my 4th. It's a 2002 with 140k miles, a 466, and an auto 5 speed that's smooth as silk. I'll find out the particulars after the 2hr trip for the purchase tomorrow. How did you find a guy to help you with the raise? All I can fabricate is slag but i want to start picking it up on the littler jobs.

Haha! I can make a mean slag as well. I was just looking around on Craigslist. This guy mainly does high-end hot-rod and custom fab stuff.
He said its a lot easier to raise a top than chop one!
I got lucky by finding him. His labor was about $3k, but the bus only cost me $2k, so I figure 5 grand for a bus with 8' ceilings is pretty cheap.

you're right, it makes sense to have a safe product -even if it cost a few bucks. i'm still grappling with design plans, but nothing I have in mind will work without a 1 1/2 - 2 foot roof raise. so i'm looking on craigslist too I towed a 26 foot speedboat with a massive inboard from NH to Seattle with my first schoolie, so I definitely want to have a hitch installed on this one too. It's just a matter of how much stuff I want to drag along (probably a car and everything else).

ugggh! back to the drawing board. I started noticing things during the final inspection that made me feel like something wasn't right. Rust and body damage i hadn't seen before made me back off from the purchase and start my search again. Damn!
