National Roof-Raising Tour?

This is strictly a brainstorm for now.
But there is a roof that needs raising in New York, and another in Tennessee. Both of these are organizations with realistic budgets.
And they have both failed to find someone to take on these jobs.

So I'm beginning to think... what if... I were to drive there and do these jobs?

Might there be other such projects I could add to the "tour"?
I would need to collect a reasonable fee for my time.

This could not possibly begin until late September.

Thoughts?

I am dreading the idea of taking that on by myself.

Google tells me that your are about a 12 hour drive from me. Or... Would it be better to bring the bus to you?

I am serious! How about I order the materials and show up at your place with tools, materials & beer on September 4?

I have sawzall, grinder, wirefeed welder and a bottle opener I can bring along.

I got help from forum members and friends. If I can raise a roof any of you can!
Its WAY easier than it sounds. But yeah, hard to do alone. Not impossible, but I couldn't do one without some help.
I'd be glad to help out anyone in FL with a bus and a place to keep it.

On September 4, you would have to come to the 4:30 Plaza in Black Rock City.

I intend to raise roofs without welding from now on. All bolts with anti-crush tubes.

The bottle opener... would indeed be useful.

I probably ought to re-raise Millicent's roof (as planned for some time), or raise Albatross' roof, to perfect my method before taking on an outside job.
That takes us into October.

Thanks, but in Houston... the owner is highly competent and has all the tools including TIG -- and is an old friend.
But I will certainly keep you in mind.

Also in Buffalo, not too sure about the roof raise, but I'd be willing to share labor, tools, brainstorm, etc.

We have a partially converted bookmobile. We gutted most of the material but are trying to decide if we want to do the roof, walls, floor, etc. or just leave as is.

I would think the more help the better and also a learning experience.. I would welcome any and all forum members and help them learn and sharew ideas..

when i was out at ECCB's raising, I learned alot and didnt do a lot other than turn a bolt.. but the fact I had 3 extra pairs of vice grips in my tool box saved someone from wasting an hour round trip to the hardware and back..

let others in even just to watch and learn and share ideas.. sure looks like there are lot of roofs to be raised.. of course the way to do it is to pick the ones in the north in summer and the south in winter...

This is interesting. I was thinking about this just last week. I will be in the Little Rock, AR area if anyone is in the area and wants to get something together. I have not done a roof raise yet, so I am also looking for insight and help. Don't have much tools.

Thanks again!!!! Did you get your vice grips back?? I think I remember getting them for you, but I was pretty flustered and wired from the excitement!

I think so.. Im always misplacing or destroying vice grips anyway.. its why I buy them in 3 packs at HF...
