Re: need advice on possible purchase of '76 Crown

Here is a link to tag year colors by states.
http://www.andrewturnbull.net/plates/sticker.html

The one on the bus looks green and may be for 2012; but is it expired?
You didn't mention why the bus was towed?
Besides the tow and impound fees; which increase everyday the bus is in impound can add up to allot.
Any citations issued?
Hardball the guy if you really want if he doesn't just sign the pink and "give" you the bus watch and learn when and where they may auction it off.
Most states they do that around 30 days if it is not claimed.

i would probably be careful about purchasing that bus for a number of reasons.. if you are in portland, you can call me at 971 218 9831 and i will tell you what i think, as i have had 2 busses with those, and work on that stuff.

Re: need advice on possible purchase of '76 Crown

The ad says it has a Detroit Diesel, and a 5 speed manual transmission. I assume that's a 6-71. It should get better fuel milage than 5 mpg. It's a mid engine bus, the engine laying on its side. If it was a turbo'd 6-71, I'd consider it for a few thousand. You better be a gearhead though, & those Crowns have those funny screw heads on the chassis fasteners.

Buy the bus, your life will never be the same.

Re: need advice on possible purchase of '76 Crown

Mid engine Crown and Gillig busses have very little space underneath for water and waste tanks, etc. They are great buses, but not ideal for a conversion. On the other hand, I'm considering selling my 1975 Gillig pusher. Has a very low mileage CAT 3208 and Roadranger 10 speed. Virtually new tires, upgraded to tubeless. Has bunks for ten and an open living space in the rear. It's in Winnemucca NV, about 9 hrs from Portland. I'll send pics if your interested.
